PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Project Cost: $8,300,000
Project Size: 24,350 SF

The design team prepared a Design/Build Request for Proposal for a new 24,350 gross building square foot addition adjacent to existing Building 8 on the Salem VA Medical Center campus in Salem, Virginia. The new facility was designed to include patient treatment and living spaces that incorporate the latest philosophy and design elements of patient safety and security in order to eliminate any potential for accidental or intentional harm of the patient to him/herself or others. The facility will house a total of 36 beds within four patient care units: General, Acute, Women's and Geriatric Behavioral Health. The building's exterior was designed to fit within the existing architectural vernacular on the medical campus while the interior will provide a home-like atmosphere with natural finishes, open spaces, natural lighting, exterior views, and exterior garden areas. Each patient care unit will have direct access to secured courtyard with hardscape accented with native vegetation.
